Molly's magnetic field is most likely caused by a magnet company's plan gone awry.
A magnet company knew she worked in technology and somehow gave her a magnetic field and they knew that her magnetic field would mess up any sort of technology and the company was going to charge her a lot of money to remove the magnetic field.
The company's plan failed when the company went out of business.
