Forums: Discussion > Is removing User: prefix okay?

Only a few users on the Listeners page have kept their User: prefix, so I moved my user page from User:Feld to Feld and explained at User talk:Hollyhock how to use the Move feature so both the user page and talk page make the move. Considering this practice encroaches on the global namespace, I'm curious to know what pb30 and others think about it. In my personal opinion, it seems reasonable because the global namespace is relatively small, our nicknames tend toward the unique, and listeners are frequently mentioned (e-mails, calls, etc.). But, there's also a good reason why the "User:" namespace exists, and a good argument to be made for restoring it. Thoughts?

User namespace is fine for user profiles, as long as user talk page isn't moved (because of the new message box) imo RT | Talk 19:33, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Randomtime, I think that it would be ok to remove the User prifix from the username unless they don't want it to. I think that if we go ahead and do this, we could put a notice that tells the person what has been done and who to contact if they want to change it back. lightningboy7 | Talk 16:37, Saturday January 3, 2009 (UTC)

The talk page should Remain at user talk:Username - due to the new messages box though RT 22:05, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
